Special Programs
Special Day
Special Day is undoubtedly the highlight of every session. It is kept a secret from the campers until the morning of. Planned around an exciting plot, staff play character roles while leading teams through different events and games. Recent Special Days have included Pixar Day, Beijing Olympic Day, Jumangi Day and Medieval Day. Sparrow’s dining hall commemorates our Special Day history, as a plaque is made in memory of every Special Day. The plaques date back to the 1940s and always serve as a point of interest and conversation in the dining hall.
Sunday Program
Sundays are also very unique at Sparrow. Serving more as a day of relaxation, we begin with a chapel service in the woods. We get everyone's blood pumping by playing our traditional Sunday game of Capture the Flag. In the afternoon, campers are given the freedom to choose to do completely new activities. This allows campers to spend time with people beyond their immediate cabin mates, as well to select their own activities for the afternoon. Sunday afternoons provide a program designed to be different from the regular resource area activities; examples include kite flying, face painting and greasy watermelon games in the waterfront.
