Water Activities
Swimming
During the hot days of summer, any chance to get into the lake and have a swim is always a welcome opportunity. Our swim area has a large sand beach, lots of swim toys, and plenty of NLS certified lifeguards for supervision.
Campers can learn to swim or spend some time perfecting their swimming skills while at camp. We offer the Red Cross Swim Kids program levels 1 to 10 and the Lifesaving Society's Bronze Star (for 12 day campers only, sorry!). Our LITs spend the full month working on their Bronze Medallion and Bronze Cross Lifesaving Society certifications.
If getting levels isn't a camper's thing, we have plenty of things for them to do down at the waterfront too. There are Rec Swim periods where campers are invited down to the swim area to play games and sports in the water. Campers can also start off every day with a Polar Bear Dip before breakfast.
Canoeing and Kayaking
All campers get lots of chances to try out our canoe and kayaking program during their time at Sparrow Lake.
If campers choose to, they can enroll in the lessons to improve their canoe or kayaking skills. We offer certification levels in both canoeing and kayaking that give our campers the skills they need to be able to canoe and kayak with confidence. Our level system starts with the basics and moves on to more complex skills (for example solo paddling and tripping skills in canoeing, and rolls in kayaking).
Sailing
Our campers explore the large bay in front of camp in our fleet of sailboats.
We offer instruction in the Canadian Yachting Associate (CYA) White Sail I, II and III levels for campers who have signed up for our Sailing program.
All campers get an opportunity to go out in the boats and try their hand at sailing during our cabin sessions (with lots of support from our sailing staff, of course).
