YOUTH LEADERSHIP PROGRAMS
Sparrow Lake Camp offers a L.I.T. program as well as a C.I.T. program.
a.. L.I.T. (youth who will be 15 years old by December 31, 2008)
b.. C.I.T. (youth who will be 16 years old by December 31, 2008)
Leader In Training Program
An intensive month-long training program where LITs develop their camp
skills. Instruction and certification in outdoor recreation skills includes
canoeing, sailing, and first aid. Each LIT will work towards obtaining
aquatic leadership or life guarding qualifications (Bronze Medallion or
Bronze Cross). The program is designed so the LIT becomes proficient in
both performing and teaching these skills. An extended canoe trip is taken
and advanced tripping techniques are developed. The LIT program focuses on
soft skills too; including the development of interpersonal skills critical
for successful leadership. Future preference will be given to those who have
successfully participated in the LIT program for CIT and summer staff
positions at Sparrow Lake Camp.
This program is limited to 24 youth for each month and will be offered on a
first come first served basis. To register for the LIT program simply
complete the regular registration form and return it to the Camp Registrar
with your deposit. LIT Camp A: Monday June 30 - Friday July 25, 2008 LIT
Camp B: Monday July 28 - Friday August 22, 2008
Fee: $1350 + $108 (tax) = $ 1458
Counselor In Training Program
2008 is a transition year for these programs; the CIT program will be
similar to our LIT program in pervious years. During this month-long
training period the CITs develop their camp counseling skills. Instruction
and certification in outdoor recreation skills includes canoeing, sailing,
and first aid. Each CIT will work towards obtaining aquatic leadership or
life guarding qualifications (Bronze Medallion or Bronze Cross). An
emphasis is placed on developing the interpersonal skills that are critical
for successful leadership. Participants will learn creative counseling
techniques and the dynamics of group process. They will be at times linked
with a younger cabin group to gain first hand experience.
Successful completion of the CIT program is excellent preparation for a
Sparrow Lake Camp staff position in future years. However, completion of
the program does not guarantee such a position and is not a prerequisite for
obtaining a staff position.
This program is limited to 13 youth for each month. Application instructions
for the CIT program can be obtained on the Sparrow Lake Camp website or
through the Registrar's office and are due in by March 2, 2008. For an
application click here or contact the
registrar
CIT Camp A: Monday June 30 - Friday July 25, 2008 CIT
Camp B: Monday July 28 - Friday August 22, 2008
Fee: $1000 + $80 (tax) = $ 1080
Both programs put significant physical demands on the participants; one
should be prepared to work hard during their month-long stay. Due to the
intensive nature of these programs and in order to promote unity within the
groups, visitors are strongly discouraged, except in the event of an
emergency.
FAMILY CAMP
The Family Camp weekend is planned with the entire family in mind. It gives us all a chance to enjoy the natural environment, good fellowship and fun. The weekend kicks off with an informal campfire on Friday evening. After a good night's rest and a hearty breakfast the real fun begins. On Saturday morning our staff will provide programs for the children, while the adults take part in their own planned activities. In the afternoon there will be theme based programs for the whole family. Time will be set aside for families to enjoy popular core camp programs such as swimming, canoeing and crafts. Saturday comes to a close with more fellowship around the campfire. Join us for what will soon become an SLC tradition!
Friday July 25 to Sunday July 27, 2008
