Our Leadership Team

At Sparrow Lake Camp, our focus is simple: kids should have the chance to be kids. We want them to be able to spend their summers making friends, trying new things, and growing in confidence in a safe, well-supported environment.

We believe that happens best in a community where every child feels welcome and respected. Our role isn’t to change who kids are—it’s to create a place where they can build independence, take on new challenges, and form meaningful friendships with the support of a team focused on their care and safety.

Brendan Turner

Executive Director

With over 30 years of summer camp experience, I’ve dedicated my career to creating environments where kids can thrive—socially, emotionally, and independently.

I started out as a ropes course instructor and worked my way up to Associate Director at Camp White Pine, before serving as Program Manager and Executive Director of Camp Quality Canada, a national organization that provides camp experiences for children with cancer.

As Executive Director of Sparrow Lake Camp, I’m responsible for the overall safety, staffing, and camper experience. That means ensuring we have strong systems in place, well-trained staff, and a culture where every child is cared for and supported - no matter who they are.

As a parent, I understand the trust it takes to send your child to an overnight camp. It’s something I take extremely seriously as we work year-round to ensure every detail of camp is thoughtfully managed. But our goal is simple: to ensure that every camper feels safe, included, and able to fully participate in the experience—while having a lot of fun along the way!

Thank you for trusting us with your most important people—it’s an honour to see them coming back year after year.

Associate Director - Operations and Administration

Camp is a place where everyone can be their authentic selves—free from the expectations and pressures of everyday life. As a non-binary person and proud member of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, I understand the importance of having a space where you are fully accepted, just as you are.

For over 40 years, camp experiences have shaped who I am today. At camp, I’ve built friendships that have lasted a lifetime, learned to appreciate the beauty of nature, and developed a deep respect for our planet. Living in close community taught me the value of empathy, acceptance, and understanding in resolving conflicts. And most meaningfully, camp is where I met my wife, Amanda. Our children, Sydney and Cooper, are now enthusiastic campers themselves!

I joined Sparrow Lake Camp in November 2019 after many years as the Sailing Office Manager at the Royal Canadian Yacht Club. Before that, I served as the Financial and Logistics Administrator for Camp Ahmek and Camp Wapomeo of the Taylor Statten Camps.

Thank you for your interest in Sparrow Lake Camp — a place where everyone belongs. We hope to see you this summer!

Our Commitment to Families

We know that choosing a camp is a big decision. Our commitment is to provide a safe, well-run environment where kids are supported, encouraged, and able to grow through experience.

At Sparrow Lake, that means balancing fun, independence, and community—so that every child can feel confident, connected, and truly at home.

Each year, we look for ways to strengthen the camp experience—introducing new ideas, activities, and opportunities for connection. If you ever have feedback, we’re always interested in hearing from you. .
